When I think of container gardening, I always think of "Busch Gardens," "Disney World" and "Bok Tower." They have the most beautiful potted plants. I especially love all their hanging baskets.
So now that the weather is turning a little cooler (I know that it doesn’t seem like that here in Central Florida), I am optimistic. It’s time to think about growing some cooler growing plants and vegetables. And growing them in a container is perfect for many of these plants.

So let’s talk about the benefits of Container Gardening.
They are Portable: When you plant in a pot, or hanging basket you can move this plant easily to where you want to grow it. And if you change your mind on its location or you see the plant just doesn’t like its location (the plant grows poorly), you just move it. You can also move this plant inside for protection from the winter freeze, or other seasonal changes (or here in Central Florida - if hurricanes are coming - you can give them protection from the winds)
Encourage Experimentation: Try a variety of plant combinations in your pots. Perhaps for color, or butterfly attraction. Try things in pots you might never do in your yard - Experiment.
Control Watering: When you have a plant in a pot it’s easy to water. You can water by hand, or set up a micro-irrigation system to water a large number of container garden plants at once. Make sure you know the plants water requirements and water accordingly.
Attractive Alternative: Planting in pots is a nice alternative to in-ground planting. It can let you be creative and artistic at the same time.
So this fall, while planting and pruning back your yard, take another look at potted plants. And try one or two just for the fun of it. You will be rewarded with many, many months of beauty.
