Vultures are a much misunderstood bird, the role they play though is crucial to the maintenance of a clean and healthy environment. The vulture is not a predator by nature; first and foremost they are carrion feeders, scavengers. They ‘recycle’ dead animals, road kill, the decomposing carcasses that otherwise would spawn bacteria and diseases that would endanger not only wildlife but our health as well.
No! I’m not talking or rather writing about the ugly duckling remembered from our childhood stories, which turns into a beautiful swan. Quite the reverse, here in Florida, we have a duck who turns from a beautiful duckling into a ….. well, see what you think!
