PegEgg

My Name is: PegEgg (It’s a nickname from my ceramics days when I poured greenware and had to initial the bottom of the wet clay.)

My Focus is: My true loves in the plant world are three fold – orchids, bulbs and vines. I have grown orchids for the last 10 years and have killed as many as I now have. But I love the challenge of the plant. As for bulbs and vines, they really are the lazy man’s plant and once established you can hardly kill. I love sharing plants, and trying new cultivars. I never met a plant I didn’t like.

My Interests are: Growing and caring for orchids, bulbs and vines. I also love all butterfly larval and nectar plants and have a great butterfly garden. (Which I recommend everyone plant to help nature out.) Butterflies are a fabulous addition to everyone’s garden.

Additional Bio: I have always loved plants, since I was a kid, growing giant sunflowers and hydroponic tomatoes (great plants, but no tomatoes) in my urban backyard. As an adult, after moving around a lot in the U.S. Army and Army National Guard, we retired down here in Tampa, Florida. We bought a little track home with four hibiscus and three pittosporum out front, and lots of grass. Then we began to visit theme parks and see all the great flora that could grow here, and we began planting many kinds of plants in our yard. We love trying new things to see how they work in our yard, and have killed as many plants as we now have. But it’s the experimentation that’s always fun. Over the years we have tried to widdle away at our grass, and now have only about ½ the original grass.  As an avid plant lover, I’m always interested in new plants, and like to change out old plants and put in new ones. Our yard is always growing and changing. I love plants that give me free babies in the form of volunteers or bulblets, or seeds. And I love to trade plants with fellow plant lovers. It’s fun and very economical.
